We all know THOSE people....
This week we’re gonna do something a little different. We’re talking about brand loyalty or more specifically, fanboys. Why are they all so. Hateful.
Whether you’re team playstation, xbox, apple, Microsoft, Samsung, intel, amd, nividia, starbucks, mcdonalds, burger king, golden state, patriots, chipotle, nike, Adidas, it doesn’t matter. Why would you hate someone else for not liking something you do? We’re all people, we all have different tastes and different things make us happy. So why? Why do people continually bash someone for liking something that you don’t. “Xbox has backwards compatibility”, “Well playstation runs at 3 more FPS” “The Switch is the most unique”. Stop it.
Listen it’s great you enjoy a certain brand so much but you don’t have to shove it down other people’s throats. It’s like politics, you’re not gonna change anyone’s mind. You’re just gonna start an argument. People are gonna get mad at you not because they dislike your product, but because you’re shoving your own ideals upon them. It’s okay to disagree.
Tell me honestly, have you ever enjoyed someone else telling you that you’re a terrible person for liking what you do? No of course not. Imagine if people did this about people’s relationships. “Bro check out the girl I’ve been seeing” “Ugh, why’d you pick that one? There’s one 2inches taller and is hassle free.” “But this one has a great user interface and easy to understand” “Listen. THIS one is better because it’s cheaper and it’s the hardware that counts more not the software OKAY?” See how ridiculous it is?
Brand loyalty doesn’t matter. In fact do you know why brands love fanboys? It’s because they buy all their stuff. It’s generally cheaper for a company retain a customer than to acquire a new one. It’s business 101. Why does it matter that the guy next to you needs to have an xbox like you? So what if he likes ps4? The reasons he likes the ps4 may be completely different to why you like the xbox one. And that’s fine.
That’s why there’s this thing called “choice”. According to Merriam-Webster choice is “the act of choosing” and, according to my definition “why does it matter to you what that person picks?”. I personally think sometimes people want to shove their “insert best product here” down another person’s throat is because they want to feel justified for owning that product. They feel like since they own it, it is the best product in the world. Yes, yes fanboys, we get it your product is the best. For you. It doesn’t mean it’s the best, for me, or for another person.
So why can’t we get along and just appreciate that we have so much choice in the world to even argue about what’s good. So please, just let people pick what they like, sure some things may be more expensive, or provides less functions but it doesn’t mean it’s bad, there could be other reasons they like it, like features that a different item doesn’t provide. So before you force your ideas on someone, actually think what made them get that particular product, not why YOU wouldn’t pick it because it didn’t fit YOUR needs.
I mean, at the end of the day, we can all agree on one thing, Harambe should still be here.
