When you think of Samsung, you think of a big electronics giant. Who makes anywhere from your refrigerator to your tv, to your smartphone. They make a lot of different smartphones. So many, that you wouldn’t even know the name of all of them. And that’s fine. Today we’re not focusing on that, but rather, some of the features Samsung has added to their smartphones, and why they may actually be making a lot of sense. If you want to know specifics, I’m talking about their phone cameras and displays. Anyway, let’s get started.
When you think of Samsung phones you think of 3 things. Android. The operating system it runs. The bright AMOLED Display, and their..... camera features? Oh, god. The camera features.
Let’s start off with a little background info. I recently took a trip to South Korea, the homeland of Samsung, and noticed some interesting things about the people there and the overall culture. And I came to a really solid conclusion. The Samsung flagship phones, the galaxy S9, S9+, S10, SX, whatever is coming up, will keep its Korean roots intact. Here’s what I mean. Why are Samsung displays so saturated and filled with so many vibrant colors that seem a little too… unlife-like. Well, that literally describes every commercial on Korean TV. That’s right, Samsung does what every TV commercial does in South Korea, have vibrant colorful, images. It’s appealing to their home market. We’ve been looking at Samsung all wrong, they made the colors like that for a reason. Sure, it might not appeal to the US as much as South Korea, but that’s not a bad thing. They control half of the smartphone market there, that’s more than Apple or Samsung here, in the states.
The same thing even applies to their cameras. Samsung touted their cameras in commercials with its wider-angle front facing selfie camera compared to their competitors like Apple and they had features like beauty face. So, I know, a lot of people laugh at that one. They may find it even useless. But both these things about Samsung’s smartphone cameras are super important. On my trip to South Korea I noticed something that isn’t like the US. And that, is the number of selfies taken in a day. I’m just giving an estimation here, if the average American teen takes a selfie a day, South Korean teens are shooting selfies 2 to 3 times as much. I noticed this a lot on the subways, busses, and tourist sights. They care a lot about their appearances. And they put in a lot of effort for it as well. Beauty face can’t do anything for my face though, cause let’s face it my face just isn’t pretty enough to look at. It’s too pretty.
Jokes aside, A trip to South Korea taught me quite a bit about why Samsung makes their smartphones the way they are, and it makes sense. Sure, over here we think those features aren’t too important, and don’t really make or break a smartphone, but that’s just the US. It probably means something completely different to a different market.
Anyway, guy, what do you think? Are there any specific features that make a break a smartphone not many people think about? Do you live in a different country that priorities different things? Do you think I’m right in my assessment of Samsung? Leave all that down in the comment section below, if you enjoyed this video, give it a thumb up, and well don’t forget to subscribe. I’ll see you guys next time.
